A late spring storm has pelted parts of Colorado and Wyoming with an abnormally large amount of snow.
The big picture: While snow in May in this area isn't unheard of, this year's storm has ranked well above the average.
- The storm so far has brought 3 inches of snow around Denver and up to 6 inches in other parts of Colorado, per CNN.
- Denver has historically averaged 1.7 inches of snow in May, per the National Weather Service.
- Wyoming is currently sitting at 8.5 inches total snowfall, per NWS Cheyenne's Twitter.
- Cheyenne has historically averaged 2 inches of snow in May, according to U.S. climate data.
