'In our starting XI next season' - Chelsea fans go nuts after what Reece James did for Wigan

Chelsea fans have gone nuts after Reece James' thumping 30-yard effort for Wigan Athletic this afternoon - with loads taking to social to media to claim he should be in the first team next season.

The 19-year-old joined the Championship side on a season-long loan in the summer and has proven himself more than capable of playing in the second tier, gaining a reputation during his spell at the Latics so far.

His performances have been so good, in fact, that many are hoping that James will return to the first team next season at Stamford Bridge and gain a regular starting spot, much like his team mate from the Academy, Callum Hudson-Odoi, has done this campaign.

The four stunning stats that prove who Chelsea's most important players are this season

James has played right back for most of the season at Wigan and has done extremely well, but has shone even more after being put into a central midfield role where his power and technique on the ball has seen him endear himself to the Wigan fans just that little bit more.

Chelsea fans are starting to take notice too, especially after his 30-yard effort in Wigan's game with Bristol City where he put together all of his attributes to thump home the opening goal.

With Chelsea unable to sign players next season as a result of their two-window transfer ban from Fifa, James may well get his chance in Sarri's first team and these Chelsea fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on what should be next for the 19-year-old.

Here's what they had to say.

The Chelsea youngster who 'can go to the top' - and it's not Mason Mount or Reece James
