NEW YORK _ New York City's death toll from the coronavirus soared to 99 Sunday night, up from 63 in the morning, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio's office.
There were 10,764 confirmed cases of the virus in the Big Apple as of 6 p.m., de Blasio said.
Brooklyn had the most cases out of any borough, 3,154, followed by Queens, with 3,050; Manhattan, 2,324; the Bronx, 1,564; and Staten Island, 666.
The update came after de Blasio had a call with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
After weeks of bashing the commander-in-chief for being slow to respond to the outbreak, de Blasio said he was "pleased" with the call.
"At least tonight for the first time in weeks, I heard a response that showed me focus and an acceptance and an understanding of the sheer scope of the problem," the mayor said on CNN.
"The proof will be in the supplies, the equipment, the personnel," he added. "If they keep coming ... I think we have a chance to stay ahead of it."
