'In my lifetime' - Graham Potter makes Liverpool and Man City title race admission

Brighton boss Graham Potter has confessed that Liverpool and Manchester City are “two of the best teams in my lifetime” as the Premier League title race continues.

Liverpool moved two points clear of Man city on Tuesday night after their 4-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield. It was a victory that also helped keep the Reds’ quadruple hopes alive, having reached the FA Cup final and semi-final stage of the Champions League and having already won the Carabao Cup.

Potter’s side could do Liverpool a favour as they travel to the Etihad on Wednesday night. However, though he believes Brighton are up to the challenge, Potter admitted that he is in awe of both Liverpool and City in their battle for the league title.

"Both teams have given so much to the Premier League, they have raised the level,” he said . “They’re two of the best teams in my lifetime.

“To have those two competing at the top of the league, it’s inspiring to everyone and it shows how we can all improve. They’re two fantastic teams."

The Brighton boss added that his side will not fear City on Wednesday evening having already held Liverpool to a draw this season and recorded back-to-back wins over Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. But Potter did praise City manager Pep Guardiola for consistently bringing the best out of his side and pointed to their recent FA Cup defeat to Liverpool as an example.

"We’re not fearful of them [Man City], but they’re an amazing side,” he added. “The way they played in the second half at Wembley showed a lot about their quality and their character, they pushed Liverpool all the way. They’re inspirational in terms of how they act.

"Pep [Guardiola] has been there a while, players can be tempted to take their foot off the pedal, and maybe the message coming down from the coaching staff isn’t so powerful, but they have always acted incredibly, they’re champions. People make an assessment of them based on titles and wins, but from a coaching perspective, how they act, it’s incredible."
