In some much needed wholesome news on this dreary locked-down evening, Matilda’s legend Sam Kerr has gone Instagram official with US soccer player Kristie Mewis, and the two are so fucking cute together.
There were already rumours of a romance between the pair after Mewis was pictured comforting Kerr after her team’s loss against the US in the Tokyo Olympics. A photo of the two hugging on the pitch had some eyebrows raising, and those suspicious have now been confirmed in Kerr’s latest Instagram post.
Kerr shared a picture onto her Instagram of Mewis sitting in her lap, arms wrapped around each other as they kiss. Honestly, it’s actually just so romantic. And let me tell you, as someone who is incredibly touch-starved right now in lockdown, I am SO EMOTIONAL. Someone hold me like that pls.
Mewis posted a picture of the couple taking selfie to her own Instagram story, and ugh, just look at these two.
Their Instagram-official status comes months after the two have apparently been flirting online, with one Twitter user doing us the favour of compiling literally ever flirty interaction between these two in Instagram comments until now. Which is just, incredible dedication.
And it also makes for some freakin’ adorable reading if you wanna curl up and read them like a 15-year-old on Wattpad.

Considering how dire some of the news has been around COVID-19, lockdowns and climate change, I’m glad Sam Kerr is finding some love and joy. Go get it, sis! You deserve it.
