In Matt Nagy era, Bears haven’t lost by more than a touchdown

One of the themes that has followed the Chicago Bears into the 2019 season has been how they’ve been in every game that they’ve played, especially in their two losses to the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders.

In the Matt Nagy era, the Bears haven’t lost a game by more than seven points, as pointed out by the Sun-Times.

In stark contrast, for three seasons under John Fox, the Bears had nine losses by 20-plus points and 16 losses by more than one score.

Even in games where they trailed early, including to the New York Giants and Oakland Raiders, the Bears battled back to within a single score over these past two seasons.

That’s a testament not only to Chicago’s defense, who has been a top-10 unit since 2017, but also to Nagy, who has kept his players fighting through adversity up until the very end.

In the Bears’ five losses last season, playoffs included, they lost by one point to the Green Bay Packers, three points to the Miami Dolphins, seven points to the New England Patriots, three points to the New York Giants and one point to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Three of those losses — the Dolphins, Giants and Eagles — came down to a game-winning or game-losing kick in the final seconds or overtime or regulation.

So far this season, the Bears have lost to the Packers by seven points — the game’s only touchdown — and three points to the Oakland Raiders.

The Bears will need to stay in games as they roll through the rest of the 2019 season, which features games against the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs and a slew of division games.
