In Gurdaspur, mother lends shoulder to martyr’s bier

GURDASPUR: The mortal remains of martyr Mandeep Singh were consigned to flame at his native village Chhatha in Gurdaspur district on Wednesday. As the martyr’s body arrived in the village, his relatives and villagers raised slogans in praise of the martyr and against the Pakistan government. Mandeep’s mother gave shoulder to her son’s coffin.

Born on October 16, 1991, Mandeep was with 16 Sikh Regiment and died on October 11 in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory along with four other soldiers.

He is survived by his wife Mandeep Kaur, two sons Mumtaz Singh (4 years) and Gurkeerat Singh (40 days).

Shaheed Sainik Pariwar Suraksha Parishad general secretary Kunwar Ravinder Singh Vicky said one of Mandeep’s brothers, Jagroop Singh was a havildar in the Army and was deployed at Ganganagar and the other brother, Gurpinder Singh was in Qatar.

Among those who paid respect to the martyr and laid wreaths were included cabinet minister for rural development and panchayats, animal husbandry and fisheries and dairy development, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa.
