EAC helps older people to make informed choices in meeting their housing and care needs. Since 1985 EAC has striven to deliver a first class information and advice service directly to older people and to their relatives and carers. At the same time we have raised awareness among policymakers and the public of the importance of high quality information and advice making decisions about how and where to live in older age.
Why Business Supports EAC's Work
Many companies recognise that smaller charities can find it difficult to sustain their vital work during recession. With finance tight they often prefer to support activity that is enabling - helping people to self determine and make their own choices about their future needs. EAC helps to do this with older people and their families. Providing support to charities like EAC which focus on housing, health and well-being in later life is one of the most important areas for CSR activity. Many companies recognise that employees in middle age are often concerned about the housing and care needs of their elderly parents. While those approaching retirement may themselves need informed advice and guidance about their future. The services provided by EAC recognise the needs of older people and of their families.
Working in Partnership
Increasingly, 'donors' and 'supporters' wish to be directly involved in helping to shape the use and outcomes of their funding -something which we encourage actively at EAC. We believe business should work with us and share 'ownership' of joint initiatives and successes. The success of EAC's National Housing for Older People Awards, for example, is a direct outcome of the partnerships we have built with Nationwide and Legal & General and a wide raft of housing providers, managers and designers. EAC supports the principle of 'active giving' and works closely with its partners to promote and deliver a close 'fit' with their social objectives. EAC may be small but we have been effective throughout our 25 years in ensuring that the funding we secure is invested efficiently in services for older people.
