In-form Nottingham Forest are a 'statement' team, admits Barnsley man

Struggling Barnsley are under no illusions about the task which lies in front of them when they visit in-form Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but it’s a task they’re relishing in front of a near sell-out crowd.

The Tykes dropped into the Championship’s bottom three on Sunday when Yorkshire rivals Leeds United netted two late on to seal victory at Oakwell, and come to Nottingham looking for just a second win on their second-tier return.

Assistant boss Chris Stern admits getting anything from the City Ground will be a tough task, given Forest’s recent form which has seen them win at Fulham and Swansea during an eight-game unbeaten run, while the Tykes haven’t tasted any victory since opening day.

“They are statement team,” said the German.

They are a proper Championship club that have had some great results recently.

They beat Swansea 1-0 last weekend, so it’s going to hard for us to travel to Nottingham, but we are confident in our own ourselves.

“They are on a good run; however, we want to win again, and we are looking forward to a good game.”

Daniel Stendel’s men have struggled for goals this term, notching just four so far – the joint lowest in the division, but Stern feels the turning point may just come against Sabri Lamouchi’s Forest.

“We maybe could have scored (in the game against Leeds), but we’re confident we can go out and do that this weekend.

“It’s good that we are getting in positions to score from, but on the other hand, we need to start putting those chances to bed.

“We’ve been working on it in training, but the good thing is that we do create opportunities and if we carry on like this long term, we know that we will score.”
