In-form Bristol City man Andreas Weimann relishing return to Aston Villa after goals against West Brom and Sheffield United

Bristol City's in-form Austrian forward Andreas Weimann is relishing a return to his former club on Saturday.

The Robins travel to Villa Park for their second consecutive match against a fellow play-off contender from the Midlands.

However, they go in fine fettle having blown away fourth-placed West Brom in the first-half on Tuesday and with an unbeaten run stretching back to March 9.

During that time they have beaten fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough and Sheffield United on the road, so they have nothing to fear against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Central to this run of form has been Austrian forward Andi Weimann. The 27-year-old scored all three of Bristol City's goals away to the Blades before miraculously recovering from a seemingly serious foot injury to provide an assist and a goal against West Brom on Tuesday night.

That goal was his tenth league strike of the season - his best ever return.

World famous data analysts gives fresh Championship prediction - where Bristol City, Leeds United and Aston Villa finish

Now he is relishing a return to the club where it all began for him in English football.

Weimann joined Villa's academy in 2007 and rose through the ranks to the first team before departing for Derby in 2015.

Speaking to the club's official website, the Robins forward said: “Obviously I played there for eight years so I am looking forward to going back there.

"But obviously with Bristol City it’s a massive game for us where we can hopefully get the points and cement our place in the top six.”

Looking back on his milestone goal, he added: “I just tried to get in there and obviously Brownhill headed it back in and I just managed to get a touch and it went in under the keeper.

I am very happy [to score my tenth goal], I think that’s the first time in the league that I have got to double figures, there are a few games left so hopefully I can get a few more.”
