Jens Berthel Askou is moving closer to the Motherwell exit door after the club agreed a deal with Toulouse for his release.

According to transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri, the Danish manager is now in advanced talks with the Ligue 1 outfit and is working towards finalising personal terms ahead of the proposed switch to France.

On social media site X, Tavolieri said, "Toulouse FC have a new manager: Jens Berthel Askou!

"Motherwell FC have reached a financial agreement with the Téfécé to release their Danish coach. Everything is settled.

"Jens Berthel Askou is currently finalising the last details with Les Violets."

Askou only took charge at Fir Park last summer but has made an immediate impact in Scottish football, guiding the Steelmen to an impressive fourth-place finish in the Premiership.

That achievement secured European football for next season and significantly raised his profile, attracting interest from clubs abroad.

His potential departure would mark a swift end to what has been a highly successful spell in North Lanarkshire, with Motherwell now facing the prospect of replacing a manager who exceeded expectations in his debut campaign.
