In case you forgot, Dolphins legend Dan Marino was a trailblazer

It has been 35 years since Dan Marino’s magical 1984 season — in which he shattered many of the NFL’s single-season passing records and led the Dolphins to a dominant 14-2 regular season and what turned out to be his only appearance in a Super Bowl.

48 touchdown passes, 5,084 passing yards.

The numbers would be startling, although not unheard of, by today’s standards. And as a reminder — this was in 1984! Once Marino eclipsed the 5,000-yard barrier, it took 24 years for anyone else — who turned out to be the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees — to accomplish the feat.

Those were the days, eh? The Dolphins seem to think so, too — they showered a little love by recapping all of the records he broke in 1984.

Yardage, touchdowns, 300-yard passing games, 400-yard passing games, completions, oh my! Marino was effectively the godfather for today’s NFL game. No, he wasn’t as fleet of foot as athletes like Russell Wilson or Patrick Mahomes are today, but his mentality and thirst to throw the ball around the field were two decades ahead of his time.

Now? The entire league looks to emulate what Marino did in the mid-’80s. Some have had great success. Others, like the Dolphins, can’t even come close.
