In brief: Pitt falls ill after Africa trip

Actor Brad Pitt has been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital suffering from flu-like symptoms, a week after returning from a trip to east Africa, his publicist said yesterday. "He's fine. We think he has the flu," publicist Cindy Guagenti said. "They are just doing a couple tests." Pitt was accompanying Angelina Jolie on her trip to Ethiopia to file adoption papers for a baby girl orphaned by Aids.

Owen Wilson is set to take the title role in a remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye classic The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, itself based on a 1939 story by James Thurber. The story centres on a daydreamer whose vivid imagination allows him to escape from the mundane constraints of his ordinary life. The new film will be directed by Mark Waters, late of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, and written by Richard LaGravenese, whose oeuvre includes Terry Gilliam's The Fisher King and the unfilmed The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Actor Anna Friel has given birth to a baby girl. The girl, called Gracie, was born at London's private Portland Hospital weighing 7lb 4oz, according to The Sun. She is the first baby for Friel and her actor partner David Thewlis.

More (re)production news: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are reportedly expecting a baby girl. The couple, who met on the set of Daredevil, got engaged in April and tied the knot at the end of last month at a low-key private affair in the Turks and Caicos Islands on a beach at sunset.
