Five charged with murder

Five youths were charged yesterday with the murder of a man who was beaten to death. Gary Rae, 40, from Hailsham, East Sussex, died in hospital after he was found bleeding heavily outside his home on Sunday night.

Ex-NHS chief in fraud trial

A former senior NHS official is to face fraud charges for allegedly faking his CV to secure a £120,000-a-year chief executive's job at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS trust. Neil Taylor, 42, has been summonsed to appear before magistrates next month to face three counts of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception.

Rail strike over safety

Midland Mainline train services face disruption again today because of a 24-hour strike by guards in a long-running row over safety. Around 150 members of the RMT will walk out from midnight.

Terror suspect to be extradited

A terrorism suspect accused of being part of a cell which provided logistical support to the September 11 hijackers can be extradited to Spain, a judge ruled yesterday. Hedi Ben Youseff Boudhiba, 45, is accused of belonging to a network in Spain which raised funds for al-Qaida and provided fake documents.

Bedside bible ban considered

Bosses at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS trust are considering moving Bibles from patients' bedsides because of concerns about offending non-Christians and spreading the superbug MRSA.
