In action taken report, Delhi cops say Rana Ayyub’s ‘hate speech’ tweets not available on X

The Delhi Police has informed a Delhi court that journalist Rana Ayyub’s tweets on Hindu deities and Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, for which she was booked in January, are no longer available on X, Bar and Bench reported.

The police had filed an FIR in January on the orders of the court, based on a complaint from lawyer Amita Sachdeva. A case was filed under IPC sections 153A (hate speech), 295A (hurting religious sentiments) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).

In an action taken report, the police informed Chief Judicial Magistrate Himanshu Raman Singh of the Saket Court on Wednesday that they have uploaded four Section 91 CrPC notices on Twitter (X) for details of the tweets and Ayyub’s account.

However, the response from the social media platform is awaited.

The court, after considering the report on Saturday, asked the Police to file a fresh status report and adjourned the matter to July 30.
