PANAJI: In a unique initiative conceptualised by the Goa police, 53 students from 10 colleges across the state are participating in a hackathon to find technological solutions to help the police serve citizens more efficiently.
“These students have been coding non-stop over the past 48 hours to find technological solutions to help the Goa police serve citizens more efficiently. This hackathon by the Goa police, which is the first of its kind, will be under way till Sunday, while a prize distribution ceremony and exhibition will be held from 2pm on Monday,” director general of police Jaspal Singh, said.
All teams need to present the prototype designed by them during the hackathon to a panel of judges. Each team will be given a 10-minute slot for presentation. The presentation shall be evaluated on the basis of suitability to police requirements, technical innovation, design robustness and UI/IX.
The teams producing the three best solutions for the police force will be awarded Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.
The hackathon aims to encourage the latter to harness their logical thinking, coding skills and technical know-how toward building digital solutions that can help resolve core policing problems and consequently ensure civil safety. Although it is being organised in a competitive format, it is a step toward the partnership of socially responsible students and law enforcement agencies in building a safe and secure society.
