Impressive Nottingham Forest record remains intact after Liverpool's Champions League exit

Nottingham Forest will boast a long-standing record in Europe for another season, at least.

The Reds are one of few clubs in English football who can say they have won the European Cup, not once but twice!

Liverpool and Manchester United are the only English clubs to have won the prestigious competition more times than Forest.

Forest were the last English club to win the European Cup in two consecutive seasons, following their successes in 1979 and 1980.

Following Liverpool’s success in last season’s Champions League, Jurgen Klopp’s side had the opportunity to equal the record set by Forest many years ago.

Liverpool were the first English club to win the competition back to back (1977 and 1978), but no other side from England has achieved the feat since the side managed by Brian Clough.

Manchester United came close to achieving the same record, after winning the tournament in 2008 they reached the final the following season but lost to Barcelona at Wembley Stadium.

Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool 4-2 on aggregate to progress to the quarter finals of the competition, joining Paris Saint-Germain, Atalanta and Red Bull Leipzig in the next round.

Following Liverpool’s exit, Forest’s impressive record will stand for at least another season, maybe more if an English club fails to win this season’s competition.
