'Impossible to fault the player' - National media's Patrick Bamford ratings from England debut

Patrick Bamford made his England debut on his 28th birthday on Sunday afternoon, as the national team ran out 4-0 winners over Andorra.

The Leeds United striker played 60 minutes of the match but unfortunately struggled for service, despite making some intelligent runs.

He was substituted at the same time that Mason Mount and Jack Grealish were brought on, which meant that England received some much-needed attacking thrust, going on to add three goals to their 1-0 lead.

Here is a round-up of how the national media rated Bamford's England debut:

Sky Sports - 5

"Had scarcely any service to work off prior to being replaced and only came vaguely close to scoring when he hit a second-half snap-shot over the bar before the offside flag was belatedly raised. Impossible to fault the player, but it was an opportunity not taken in more ways than one."

Evening Standard - 5

"What an opportunity to get his England career off to a flying start, but missed a great chance to open his account after the break. Service to him was poor throughout."

Telegraph - 6

"Went over the crossbar with his best chance and inches from getting on the end of Bukayo Saka’s cross. Also brought others into the game with flicks. "

Daily Mail - 6.5

"Keen to make an impression and put himself about with a couple of early challenges. Had a few nearly moments looking for a dream debut goal. Lots of unselfish work and running."

The Sun - 5

"Always willing to offer himself despite only limited involvement. Blazed over when well placed just after break, quiet debut and subbed."

The Mirror - 5

"Proud moment for the Leeds United striker but would have been disappointed not to score."

The Times - 5

"A difficult night for the debutant. Won a few headers and showed some nice touches but had little impact."

England now face Poland on Wednesday where Bamford will hope for another opportunity to prove himself in a Three Lions shirt.
