Leeds United suffocated Arsenal and will prove no team in the Premier League can dominate them this season, according to Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners boss was speaking to the media at Elland Road in the aftermath of Sunday’s 0-0 draw with the Whites, a scoreline which did not tell the entire story.
United had 66 per cent possession and rattled off 25 shots to Arsenal’s nine, but could not find a way to get through Bernd Leno, despite the visitors’ losing Nicolas Pepe to a red card.
When asked how he felt his choice of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had done through the middle, Arteta spoke more broadly about the match and how challenging the Whites proved to be.
“We had two different parts in the first half,” he said. “A part of 25, 30 minutes where we were really efficient in the high press we created some really good opportunities and made it really hard for them.
“Then a spell in the last 15 minutes we suffered where we gave the ball away and not control certain spaces against them and they suffocated us.
“They've done it against every team in the Premier League. It's impossible to dominate this team for 90 minutes.
“In the second half when you hope you're going to get things adjusted and better we go to 10 men and obviously it's a mountain to climb.”
