'Impossible task' - Opposition fans react to Phil Parkinson's Sunderland sacking

Rival fans have been reacting to Phil Parkinson's sacking at Sunderland.

The Black Cats yesterday parted company with Parkinson 13 month after he was appointed at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland currently sit eighth in League One, seven points off leaders Hull City, but have failed to win in five matches, with just two points from the last three league games.

The sluggish start to the season has been enough to cost Parkinson his job - a decision most Black Cats fans appear to agree with.

Rival fans were split on the decision, though, with some arguing yet another manager at the Stadium of Light means the club will always struggle for consistency.

There have been 10 permanent managers at Sunderland since Steve Bruce became the last boss to have a tenure of lasting more than two years between 2009 and 2011.

A statement from Sunderland confirmed first-team coach Andrew Taylor will be taking charge of Tuesday's League One match against Burton Albion.

The statement said: "Assistant manager Steve Parkin also departs, and the club would like to place on record its thanks to both Phil and Steve for their efforts during their time at SAFC.

"Preparations for Tuesday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Burton Albion will resume on Monday, with first-team coach Andrew Taylor taking charge of the squad.

"The board will now begin the search for a new manager and will make no further comment until this process is completed."

A win for the Black Cats could see them move back into the League One play-off places.

Defeat, though, could see them slip as far down as 10th in the table.
