"Impossible" Slaven Bilic delivers his verdict on Leeds United and West Brom's promotion hopes

Slaven Bilic has taken the unsurprising stance that the Championship season must not be void.

The Baggies sit second in the league standings, one point and place behind Leeds United who sit top.

Both sides have a strong grip on automatic promotion to the Premier League, with Fulham six points behind West Brom.

The latest reports in the media claim that a potential restart date of June 6 is being discussed with matches to be played behind closed doors.

Whilst some Premier League clubs are opposed to a prolonged wait for a decision and demanding a cut off of June 30, the EFL have constantly maintained their desire to ensure the season is not voided.

However, Bilic has called on the authorities to ensure that the season is completed, regardless of the comeback date.

“If you are talking about October and November, I don’t know because I am not an economist,” Bilic told BirminghamLive.

“If it is going to be impossible to play football before October or November that means the situation with the virus is not that good.

“Then I think the whole world would have much more important things to care about than football. That would mean the economy has stopped for half of the year and then who would care about football, but I think that is it is very fair and right and legal for it to finish.

“You can’t ignore that we have played three-quarters of the season. You can’t void it. If there is any possible scenario in which the season can be played it should be finished.”
