Former England striker Darren Bent has explained how the EFL will disadvantage at least some of their clubs however they decide to settle promotion or relegation this season.
The EFL could face the tough task of finding a resolution to the league season should the Championship campaign be halted amid the coronavirus pandemic.
League One and League Two could be stopped as early as next week, claim reports, but the second division looks set to fight on further into the summer.
Should the campaign have to be halted then the EFL must come to a decision to please all clubs, including Leeds United, West Brom, Nottingham Forest and their promotion rivals.
But Bent believes that could prove an impossible task.
He told Football Insider: “It’s going to be impossible because for a situation that might work for some people, you’re never going to get everyone going: ‘Yep, we’re on the same page.'
“You’re going to get teams at the bottom of the Premier League, Championship, League One and Two going: ‘Yeah, we don’t mind voiding the season’ because, obviously, they get to stay in the division.
“Then you’ve got teams at the top of the table that are going to go: ‘No, we’ve got a chance to get promoted or to win the title so we don’t want it voided.’
"Then you have teams in the middle who are going to have mixed feelings: Maybe, maybe not.
“You’re never going to be able to get everyone on the same page and no matter what situation you come up with, you’re going to upset somebody.”
