Impose President’s rule in Karnataka: Opposition leader B K Hariprasad

MANGALURU: The BJP government under chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, has created lawlessness in the state, and has no moral right to continue in power. The governor should dissolve the government, and recommend President’s rule as per Article 356 of the Constitution, if peace is to be maintained in the state, said opposition leader in legislative council B K Hariprasad.

He told reporters in Mangaluru on Sunday that by handing over the Praveen Nettaru murder case to the NIA, the government has proved that they are incapable of handling the situation.

"These failures of the government qualify it to be dissolved under Article 356 of the Constitution. The government has failed utterly in maintaining law and order in the state. Chief minister Bommai should resign immediately," said Hariprasad, who visited the houses of slain youth Praveen Nettaru and Masood B at Bellare in Sullia taluk and Mahammed Fazil of Mangalapete in Surathkal.

The government should arrest all the accused in the murders within 15 days, Hariprasad demanded.

He also lashed at the chief minister for being selective in visiting the kin of murder victims, during his visit to the district on Thursday.

"The chief minister, who took oath as per the Constitution, to present an unbiased administration, has shown his bias by not visiting the houses of all the victims. This indicates that Bommai is the chief minister for BJP workers only, and not for Karnataka," he said.

He lamented that development was not in the agenda of the BJP government. "The BJP is engaged in politics on the basis of dead bodies. Earlier, when 24 murders were reported during the Congress regime, the BJP blamed our government. Now the BJP government is not able to protect their own party workers. Even in front of the home minister’s house, protests were held by the party workers. Ministers and the local BJP MP also had to face the ire of party workers after Praveen’s murder," he said.

Referring to the murder of Paresh Mesta of Honnavar taluk in Uttar Kannada in 2017, Hariprasad said that Siddaramaiah was made to hand over the case to the CBI, under pressure from the BJP.

"It is five years, and there is no progress in the CBI investigation, and no arrests have been made yet," he added.
