Important reason parents should never shout at kids - and why you need to whisper

A parenting expert has revealed the reason you should never shout at your children.

Tia Slightham, who runs Parenting Solutions, said that raising your voice to your children will increase their cortisol levels - the body's primary stress hormone.

Tia says when this happens children literally cannot hear you and it creates so much tension they could have a meltdown.

The TikTok coach says instead parents should try whispering to their children - which will make them more likely to take in what you're saying, reports The Mirror.

Posting on TikTok, Tia said: "If you want to stop yelling, this is a really great tip to help. Whisper, don’t yell.

"When you feel like you are going to explode, when you feel like you’re going to lose your mind because your kids are not doing what you want them to do, and you end up blowing up and exploding like that bubbling volcano, your kids don’t hear you.

"They just go into fear mode. Their cortisol levels increase, their stress increases and they go into fight or flight.

"So instead I want you to try this trick, I want you to whisper instead of yell.

"When you feel like you’re going to explode, take a deep breath and say it quietly."

However, the tips on whispering got a mixed reaction.

One said: "I whisper until I have to yell again cause whispering makes them ignore me more."

While another said: "I mean I’ll try it. If it doesn’t work I’m going back to yelling."

And a third said: "I will try it cos I feel so bad when yelling at my kids and I can’t just control myself sometimes when I've had enough."
