LUCKNOW: Worried at the rising trend of Covid-19 cases in some states, with Kerala recording over 30,000 cases for the second consecutive day on Thursday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to tighten night curfew in the state. Night curbs were imposed from 10pm to 6am in April, at the beginning of second wave, and are still in place .
Police have been asked to sound a hooter at 9pm to ensure that all traders shut shops on time and people return home before the curfew.
“During his meeting with Team-9 on Thursday, the CM said that even though cases in UP were low, there was still the need to be extremely vigilant as states like Kerala and Maharashtra are reporting a high number of cases. Strict testing and checks must be maintained at airports, bus stations and railway stations,” the official said.
Monitoring committees in rural and urban areas should remain active and immediately report anyone who is feeling unwell. Police should carry out regular patrolling to implement the night curfew,” the official added.
However, even as the state has made it mandatory to carry either a negative RT PCR test report or a certificate of full vaccination from states which have a high positivity rate, the list of such states for travel to UP between August 16 to 31 is yet to be uploaded on the directorate of medical and health services website. The list was supposed to have been updated every two weeks.
A government spokesperson said that day curfew for all days had been lifted last week and the implementation of the night curfew had not been very strict over the past few weeks, especially as cases had fallen drastically in UP. However, he said, there is no reason to believe that the third wave would not come and therefore there was a need to be even more careful right now.
