Imperium review – hunt the neo-Nazi

Daniel Radcliffe infiltrates a neo-Nazi community in Imperium.
Daniel Radcliffe infiltrates a neo-Nazi community in Imperium.

Daniel Radcliffe gives an assured turn as Nate, a nerdy FBI agent who is persuaded to go undercover to infiltrate a community of neo-Nazis. Physically slight, but intellectually forceful, Nate manages to always be one step ahead in this dance with dangerous men who have made hate into a lifestyle choice.

There are a couple of impressive scenes: the film is particularly adept at capturing the polite face of racial intolerance in a white supremacist barbecue, where swastika cupcakes are served. But the trajectory – Nate finds himself bonding with one of the people he is meant to bring to justice – is one that is recognisable from almost every other undercover film to date.
