The Takamikura Imperial Throne the Emperor ascended during the Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi enthronement ceremony in October has been put on view for the public since Sunday at the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno Park, Tokyo.

It is being displayed along with the Michodai August Seat of the Empress through Jan. 19 as a special free exhibition.

The Takamikura has an octagonal roof with a phoenix on top, is about 6.5 meters tall and weighs about 8 tons. Visitors can also see the stairs at the back of them.

In a separate room are displayed the costumes worn by chamberlains and court ladies of the Emperor and Empress as well as swords and bows and other items used by people who played the roles of civil officers and military officers on the day of the ceremony.
