Princess Mako and Princess Kako, the daughters of the Crown Prince Akishino and the nieces of the Emperor, on Tuesday welcomed a group of foreign delegates, including ambassadors and their wives, at the Imperial Household Agency's Shinhama Kamoba Imperial Wild Duck Preserve in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture.

The Imperial gathering at the preserve is an annual winter event held by the agency. This is the sixth time that Princess Mako acted as a guide for the delegation, and the first time for Princess Kako.

The delegation consisted of 30 members from 17 countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium. Holding cups of coffee, the two princesses spoke with the delegates in front of a pond called Motodamari, where many wild birds land. After that, the participants captured wild ducks with handheld nets and then released them after attaching a tag to each bird.
