Impending signing of Sammy Ameobi sparks debate among Nottingham Forest fans

Nottingham Forest's impending signing of Sammy Ameobi has sparked debate among fans.

The forward is set to sign on a free transfer in the next 24 hours after leaving Bolton Wanderers following their relegation to League One.

He scored four goals and had provided four assists in a team which finished 23rd in the Championship last season.

Forest tried to sign the 27-year-old in January but the deal fell through.

Today's news has divided opinion among Forest supporters, with some saying his arrival shows a lack of ambition, while others have called for patience.

Here is a selection of comments from fans, who have also debated the potential move for Alan Hutton, with the right-back reportedly close to joining the City Ground club.

And here is what people have been saying on Facebook....

Richard Best: Shouldn’t we be looking for players to improve our squad? Don’t think Ameobi does that to our current attacking options. Hopefully we’re not just looking for freebies this window.

Rufus Lignum: I tell you what, this is actually a decent signing. This lad is pacey and can add a new dimension to the forward line. For free he is definitely worth the risk, performed pretty well in an awful Bolton side. Let's get realistic here guys, splashing millions like other teams do, and Karanka did does not always equal success.

Danny Walker: Why we scouring the market for free agents, like Ameobi and Hutton? I thought we wanted to get promotion??

David P Fogg: Not going to judge until I have seen him play, some people wouldn't be happy with Ronaldo or Messi at the club.
