Immigration hall expansion at East Midlands Airport will 'improve' experience of visitors

Work is under way to double the size of East Midlands Airport's immigration hall.

Airport bosses say the facility, which is due for completion ahead of next year's summer season, will improve the the experience of visitors after they land.

The size of the immigration hall had previously meant travellers needed to queue outside when they landed.

The airport says the expanded site will also cater for future growth.

Geoff Moss, EMA’s assets director, said: “We’re delighted that work is now under way to build an extension on to the immigration hall.

"This much-needed improvement will be welcomed by the 4.9 million passengers who pass through it each year.

"Not only will the arrivals experience be better for passengers, but the new building will also smarten up the airport estate.”

In addition to the immigration hall work, parts of the exterior of the check-in hall are being re-clad.

In an interview with Nottinghamshire Live in October, EMA managing director, Karen Smart, said incremental growth was the vision for both freight and passengers.

She said: "The freight growth will be greater than passenger growth, but both areas are important to us and that makes us incredibly resilient as an airport."
