'Immense' Everton midfielder signs first professional contract

Exciting Everton youngster Tyler Onyango has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal which will keep him at Goodison Park until 2023.

The 17-year-old has been part of the Blues academy for nine years, but caught the eye in particular last season after being fast-tracked to David Unsworth's under-23 squad.

The teenager made his debut at that level during the Premier League International Cup draw with PSV Eindhoven in October and put in an extremely impressive display.

Following that match, Unsworth said: “He was immense, wasn't he?!

“He was someone who was always on our radar but someone we thought we would take after Christmas and into the New Year to come and train with us, but his performances have been that good for Paul [Tait] in the u-18s that we had a look at him a couple of weeks ago and he started training with us.

“He's a boy with a big opportunity and, potentially, with a big future."

Onyango went on to make seven Premier League 2 appearances this term, on top of 12 games for Everton in the U18 Premier League.

The 17-year-old central midfielder will now have his sights set on a regular place with the under-23s, with a place in that area potentially opening up through possible loans for other youngsters.
