The Environment Agency has issued a number of flood alerts across West Yorkshire as homeowners are being told to prepare to prepare for the worst.
Businesses and homes are under threat of flooding in Hunslet, while properties in Kirkstall are also at risk. Flood experts have warned people to avoid low lying roads near rivers and urged those living next to bodies of water to be alert.
"Our Leeds incident room remains open and we are monitoring the situation," a statement on the Environment Agency website says.
Five other flood alerts of the same level are in place in other towns and cities across West Yorkshire, although these regions are not expected to be under serious threat.
However, people in Brearley and Luddenden Foot are being told to take immediate action as major flooding is expected in the two villages.
"River levels are forecast to rise as a result of persistent heavy rainfall," says a message on the website.
"Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible today. The area most at risk is Tenterfields Business Estate.
"Further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours and we are closely monitoring the situation."
However, the Environment Agency did suggest that the flood warning may be lifted this evening if the rain eases.
This weekend's heavy rainfall has also seen a car completely submerged under water in Lower Hopton, West Yorkshire, while the UCI Road World Championships has had to deviate from its planned route due to the unprecedented rainfall.
