Imelda Staunton to star in new West End production of Hello Dolly with Jenna Russell

Imelda Staunton will return to the West End to star in a new production of Hello Dolly.

Tony Award nominee Jenna Russell will join Staunton for the 30 week season next summer at the Adelphi Theatre, directed by Dominic Cooke.

Staunton returns to the stage after her much acclaimed performance in the National Theatre’s revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies – also directed by Cooke – and an Olivier Award winning role in as Mama Rose in Gypsy.

Russell was last seen in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s production of The Bridges of Madison County and Fun Home and the Young Vic. She won an OIivier for Sunday in the Park with George in 2006.

Hello Dolly, with a book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Harman, tells the story of a meddlesome matchmaker Dolly Levi who decides that her next match has to be for herself.

Rae Smith will be designing the production, with choreography by Bill Deamer and music direction from Nicholas Skilbeck.

Hello Dolly will run at the Adelphi Theatre from August 2020.
