Imelda Munster: Time for FAI board to stand down after Sport Ireland suspended funding

It is time for the board of the FAI to stand down after Sport Ireland suspended its funding.

Senior Football Association of Ireland personnel, including John Delaney, are due to appear at the Joint Oireachtas Committee today.

However, it is clear from the statement they have provided to committee members that their initial response to queries regarding the €100,000 loan was not sufficient.

Sport Ireland has suspended its funding to the organisation. This is a very serious matter.

It is Sinn Fein’s view it is time for the board of the FAI to stand down.

Former Irish football manager Brian Kerr calls for John Delaney and entire FAI board to be replaced

They have conceded their response to questions surrounding the highly unusual €100,000 loan from the [former] CEO was not sufficient and they have failed to explain why rules surrounding State funding for public bodies were breached.

The sporting public are looking on at this shambles with sheer frustration.

We need answers and we need accountability. That is what I will seek to get at today’s committee meeting.
