Imelda May tells how Bono sent her a guitar when she was desperate to write a song

Dublin star Imelda May told of how Bono sent her a guitar to help her write a song.

Imelda May has said that her U2 pal once sent a guitar to a hotel room when didn’t have one to write a song.

She said how he is a constant source of encouragement.

Imelda said that she text Bono looking for the instrument when she had none.

She said on Jarlath Regan’s Irishman Abroad podcast: “I said I’m writing away but I haven’t got a guitar with me, but I’ll write all the lyrics down, I’ll hold it in my head until I get back.

"Within an hour, there was a knock on my hotel door and I opened it and there’s a guy standing there with a guitar and a note on it, saying ‘write the f***ing song’.”

She described her relationship with the as one of encouragement and support.

She said: “He’s brilliant, he encourages me and lots of people.

"I don’t talk to him a lot but I know he’s there in the background if I need him.”
