Imelda May receives daily death threats over her anti-racism poem

Imelda May has revealed she receives daily death threats over an anti-racism poem she released last year.

The Liberties singer released her debut poetry EP, Slip of the Tongue, with one of the poems 'You Don't Get To Be Racist And Irish' going viral.

The powerful poem drew widespread praise for the talented artist but unfortunately Imelda also became the target of trolls due to her anti-racism message.

The star will appear on Sunday with Miriam this week and will tell the host that, despite the disgusting threats, she has no regrets about releasing the poem.

In a clip released from the show, she said: “I’m still getting [threats] daily.

"A lot of hate, death threats, everything. Oh my god, I can’t even tell you what I’ve gotten but I don’t regret it for a second and I’d do it again.

“That’s the power of words, isn’t it? That’s why it’s important. Words, you have to choose your words. Words are important.

"They stir up things sometimes and like I said, language and words are important.”
