Lucknow: Monsoon activity is expected to intensify across Uttar Pradesh, with rain and thundershowers likely at many places and isolated heavy rainfall forecast, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
Despite the expected rain, temperatures remained above normal in several parts of the state.
Several districts recorded rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 5.30 on Thursday, with Ballia receiving the highest at 36.4 mm, followed by Azamgarh (28.8 mm), Gorakhpur (26.3 mm), Meerut (11 mm), Orai (12.2 mm), Ayodhya (4.8 mm) and Moradabad (4.2 mm). Hardoi recorded 3.6 mm, while Varanasi received 1.6 mm of rain.
The weather department forecast rain and thundershowers at many places in the state, with isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rain likely.
In Lucknow, the sky is expected to turn generally cloudy with a few spells of rain or thundershowers.
On the temperature front, Meerut recorded the highest maximum temperature among the listed stations at 37.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Barabanki and Basti at 37 degrees each. Fatehgarh recorded 36.8 degrees, Gorakhpur 36.6 degrees and Kanpur 37.4 degrees Celsius.
Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at 29 degrees, 3.2 degrees above normal.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are likely to remain around 32 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively, the weather office said.
