PUNE: The IMD said on Monday that fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall and thunderstorm/lightning with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat State, Kerala , Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana and Karnataka during next 4-5 days.
IMD said that isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely over East Madhya Pradesh, Marathawada on July 12; West Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka during July 11-13; Odisha & Coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 11, 14 and 15; Telangana and Vidarbha on July 13; Chhattisgarh on July 12 and 15; Konkan - Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat Region on July 15.
As per an IMD forecast issued on Monday evening, isolated/scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall are also very likely over south Gujarat Region, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa during July 11- 14; Saurashtra & Kutch on July 14 and 15; Chhattisgarh July 11; Telangana and Vidarbha on July 11-12th.
The rain spells are a result of several weather systems: A Low Pressure Area lies over Coastal Odisha and neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto upper tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards.
The monsoon trough being active and south of its normal position, an east-west shear zone runs roughly along 20°N in lower and mid tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height across North Peninsular India and an off-shore trough at mean sea level runs from Gujarat coast to Karnataka coast.
