'Imagine Thiago and Partey' - Arsenal fans excited about transfer links as Liverpool get update

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been linked with a summer move to the Premier League.

The former Barcelona star has been at Bayern since 2013, and chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and manager Hansi Flick have both admitted the 29-year-old would like to embrace a new challenge.

Thiago appeared as a late substitute in Bayern's 4-2 DFB-Pokal final victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, and is set to be involved in the latter stages of the Champions League when the competition resumes next month.

Newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool have been strong touted as a potential destination for the Spain international.

And Reds manager Jurgen Klopp refused to deny the rumour when he spoke after the Reds' 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

"Would you be surprised if I didn't answer?" said Klopp. "He's a good player I like a lot but like many others out there."

But according to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Arsenal and Chelsea have also both been interested in Thiago.

"There has been interest from Chelsea and Arsenal in the past," Ornstein said on the Ornstein & Chapman podcast.

"Whether that materialises this summer I’m not too sure. London has always appealed to him and his wife as a stop in his career.

"Arsenal, on a couple of occasions, and Chelsea too, have shown interest in signing him."

And supporters took to social media to react to the links.

One club who will seemingly not be making a move for Thiago is Manchester City, which theoretically leaves the likes of Liverpool with less competition.

"One place we can tick off is Manchester City. As far as I understand it, (Thiago) probably would not work with Pep Guardiola," Ornstein continued.

"That’s not something I’ve got to the bottom of.

"When I’ve mentioned Manchester City, to my surprise, I’ve been told that him working with Pep, and Pep working with him is not something that either of them crave.

"I explored if there was some kind of animosity there. I was told ‘no, it’s nothing bad’ but perhaps there is something beneath the surface that I don’t know about."
