Images released of terrifying armed robbery at Premier Stores shop near Blackwood

CCTV stills of robbers who stormed a shop armed with an axe has been released by police.

Two men wearing balaclavas and hooded tops robbed a Premier Stores in Pontllanfraith, near Blackwood, on Tuesday, March 17, at around 8.35am.

One was armed with an axe with a red handle.

Police said they threatened the shopkeeper of the store in Fleur-de-Lys Avenue and ran off with an amount of cash.

They were seen running down Hill View before cutting through St Bleddian Close and down to St Rhydian Close.

Police said the offender with the axe was of slim build and was wearing a grey Puma hooded top, a black peaked cap, a blue bum bag, grey jogging bottoms and black Nike trainers with a white tick which were blue on top.

The second offender was wearing a black North Face jacket, NICCE grey tracksuit bottoms, silver/grey trainers - which were possibly Nikes - and a black Nike Air Max bag.

Both men had local accents.

A spokesman from Gwent Police said: "We are appealing for anyone with information, witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam footage that could help."
