Details released in police domestic abuse crackdown

Three people were charged with offences relating to domestic abuse after police arrested 13 men and women in raids.

Teams of local officers led by Merseyside Police’s protecting vulnerable people unit raided homes in Wirral, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Knowsley on Thursday, July 22.

Officers arrested 10 men and three women for a range of offences including serious assault, rape, sexual assault, harassment, breach of a restraining order and hate crimes.

Three of these people were charged and the remainder were released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Those charged were Gemma Hamblin, 35, of Vulcan Street, Vauxhall who was charged with breach of a restraining order and racially aggravated harassment, alarm and distress and James Singleton, 29, of Elgar Road, West Derby who was charged with two assaults and two incidents of criminal damage.

A 17 year old youth from Orrell Park was also charged with assault by beating and all three appeared in court today (July 23).

Merseyside Police are now issuingdetails of eight men and one woman who detectives would like to speak to as they believe that they may be able to assist enquiries into a number of incidents relating to domestic abuse, as part of Operation Cornerstone.

Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadan said: “After a successful day yesterday we are maintaining the pressure on tackling domestic abuse in our communities.

"Yesterday’s operation sends a message to any domestic abuse offenders that we are coming for you and you will be brought into custody and questioned.”

Some of the individuals Merseyside Police would like to speak to include:

  • David Brooks, 24, from Aigburth who may be able to assist in relation to an assault
  • Anthony Murphy, 24, from Norris Green who may be able to assist in relation to stalking, coercive control, assault and malicious communications.
  • Ashley Duxbury, 39, from Toxteth who may be able to assist in relation to an incident of common assault and criminal damage (relating to domestic abuse).
  • Callum Cresser, 25, from St. Helens who may be able to assist in relation to an assault.
  • Christopher Halewood, 38, from Netherley who may be able to assist in relation to an assault.
  • Joshua Chase, 20, of no fixed address who may be able to assist in relation to an assault.
  • Gary Wells, 33, from Walton who may be able to assist in relation to an assault
  • Paul Carine, 28, from Halewood who may be able to assist in relation to an assault
