A Canberra mother going through old memory cards to archive family photos was shocked to find images of her daughter's sexual assault, an ACT court has heard.
Police said the woman found 28 images and three videos of the man sexually assaulting her unconscious adult daughter.
On Thursday a 35-year-old man was charged in the ACT Magistrates Court with rape and committing an act of indecency.
Prosecutors told the court more charges were likely to follow after more images and videos were discovered on a USB stick in the man's house.
The court heard the search also uncovered images of another unknown woman, being assaulted while she was unconscious.
From steady on her feet to completely unconscious: police
Court documents revealed the photos and videos were taken in 2011, after the woman's daughter had been celebrating New Year's Eve in the city.
Police said when the man and the victim got into a taxi before midnight, the woman was steady on her feet.
But the prosecution claimed the woman was completely unconscious a few hours later, as the man allegedly committed a series of offences against her.
Police said they recently searched three premises, seizing a number of cameras and memory cards.
At one address in Flynn, officers said they found a USB stick containing 291 images and videos.
The USB allegedly revealed four occasions when the man was seen assaulting the first victim while she was asleep or unconscious.
Magistrate Bernadette Boss refused bail, saying she was not confident the man could comply with any conditions.
"I note the victim is very fearful of the threat of violence," she said.
The man's lawyer disputed the claims, presenting a letter from his client's doctor that suggested he had never threatened any harm to anyone.
But Magistrate Boss found there was a likelihood of the man reoffending, citing evidence of his psychological state.
The man will remain in custody until his next appearance in August.
