Image shows how Leeds train station will look when Platform Zero is complete

An image has been revealed to show what a brand new platform at Leeds train station could look like once complete.

Work is underway to build Platform Zero - part of a £161 million scheme to overhaul the busiest train station in the north of England.

For the first time, an artists' impression has been released to show what finished Platform Zero will look like.

It is being built next to Platform One and it is still roughly one year away from being completed.

However, hundreds of labourers worked throughout the Christmas period to continue work on the scheme.

A huge crane was brought in to help upgrade the track, while several tonnes of ballast were also unloaded as part of the huge project.

New overhead wires were also fitted and specialist equipment was installed over the five-day period from Christmas Day until Sunday, December 29.

Throughout the rest of this month, the waiting shelter and canopy on Platform One will be removed, while Platforms Two and Three will be realigned and shortened.

It does mean that there will be some minor disruptions to passengers using these platforms, but all changes will be clearly signposted for the duration of the works.

The latest round of works come after the main concourse was overhauled with the installation of a transparent roof, new doors and the realignment of the ticket barriers.
