Image of man issued by police investigating attack at Cenotaph protest

UPDATE: Police say they have now identified the man they wish to speak to and we have removed the picture at their request.

Police want to identify this man in connection with an attack near the Cenotaph in Bristol during last weekend's demonstration.

Hundreds of people gathered around the war memorial on Saturday (June 13) with banners reading “All Lives Matter” and “We are NOT FAR RIGHT”.

Three people were arrested over suspected affray, assault and threats during the event.

Police have also been investigating a man being hit during the demonstration shortly after 2.20pm, and have today (June 16) put out an appeal for anyone who recognises the man pictured to get in contact.

Officers are also urging the pictured man in question to come forward.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "We’re seeking the public’s help to identify a man we wish to speak to in connection with an ongoing investigation into an assault and affray.

"A man, in his 20s, reported being struck near the Cenotaph in Bristol city centre shortly after 2.20pm on Saturday, June 13.

"Body worn camera footage and CCTV enquiries have been carried out."

DI Mat Lloyd said: “Although the protest was largely peaceful in nature, enquiries are continuing into an incident that happened that afternoon.

“We hope the man pictured sees this and comes forward, or if someone recognises him that they get in touch.”

As reported on Sunday, the man attacked suffered a 'minor injury'.

Avon and Somerset Police tweeted: "We are aware of a photograph on social media today showing an incident involving two males that happened at yesterday's protest in Bristol.

"We are looking into the matter. We'd ask people not to speculate at this time while our enquiries continue."
