Image of man found dead in Avonmouth released as police struggle to identify him

An E-fit image has been released by police detectives struggling to identify a body of man found some 17 days ago in Avonmouth.

Avon and Somerset Police has published the computerised picture of what officers believe the man looked like.

A murder investigation was originally launched but police are no longer treating the death as suspicious.

Unusually, hunts through missing people records and DNA checks have not shined any further light on who it could be.

The body was discovered by a dog walker off an access road near to Boundary Road on Sunday 8 March.

A forensic post mortem examination was conducted which concluded there were no obvious signs of injury.

While the cause of death has been deemed undetermined pending further tests, therefore officers are not currently treating the death as suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector James Riccio said: “We’re in the terribly sad position of not being able to inform this man’s next of kin he has passed away.

“We continue to investigate the circumstances which led to the man’s death but our priority is to establish his identity so we can inform his loved ones.

“Tragically, we’ve not had any reports locally of anyone missing the man’s description and other forensic enquiries have also not helped confirm who he was.

“Do you know who the man in the E-Fit is?

“Did you see him in the Boundary Road area of Avonmouth at the start of this month?

“Or do you have any friends or acquaintances who might look like the man who you haven’t seen for a while and are perhaps concerned about?

“Please, if you can help us identify the man so we can tell his family, contact us as soon as you can.”
