An image from a police scene in north Manchester appears to show a bullet casing on the floor following reports of a shooting.
Cops were scrambled to New Mill Walk in Cheetham Hill, earlier this evening (Good Friday).
A scene was put in place following calls to Greater Manchester Police just after 6.10pm.
A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said officers 'located evidence consistent with that of a firearm discharge'.
Evidence markers were seen scattered around the scene.
New Mill Walk and surrounding streets off Waterloo Road, near Alderford Parade, were combed by officers.
It is understood the casing was removed from the scene to be sent for analysis.
Forensic teams were seen going about their work as the investigation continued.
Officers were seen in discussions at the cordon as darkness fell.
Police tape closed off a large area where cars were parked.
The full GMP statement read: "Officers were called just after 6.10pm (Friday 2 April) to a report of a possible firearm discharge on Newmill Walk, Manchester.
"Officers attended and located evidence consistent with that of a firearm discharge.
"A scene is currently in place and enquiries are ongoing."
There are no reports of anybody being hurt.
