Lake Mac lucky streak: two residents score big prizes in lottery draws

The Hunter region's incredible winning streak has struck again, with a Mount Hutton man and a Windermere Park mother bagging major prizes worth a combined $400,000.

A Mount Hutton man said he couldn't help but laugh when lottery officials interrupted his workday to reveal he had won $100,000.

The Lake Macquarie resident held the winning first-prize entry in the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw on Tuesday, taking home the whopping reward.

So far this year, the Hunter and Central Coast region has had 18 major lottery wins worth more than $78 million.

The man said he was not expecting the win "one bit".

"That's insane, I can't help but laugh, $100,000?" the winner, who is remaining anonymous, told lottery officials.

"I'm just in the middle of jobs and now I'm frozen. I might have to spend the rest of the day contemplating it all."

With $100,000 soon to land in his bank account, the stunned winner said he plans to put the prize towards a house deposit.

In Windermere Park, a simple act of giving back to Mater Little Miracles turned into a $300,000 windfall for a mother who never thought she'd win a thing.

The first-prize pack from Play for Purpose Raffle 31, drawn Monday, included a shiny new Volkswagen Crafter Kampervan worth more than $182,500, $102,445.55 in gold bullion and a BCF voucher worth $15,000.

It was the Lake Macquarie resident's first time purchasing a Play for Purpose ticket in support of Mater Little Miracles.

The winner said she was excited to take her elderly mum camping in the new van.

"I was on the phone to my elderly mum when I saw a call come through from a number I didn't recognise," she said.

"I said to her, 'I don't know who it is, but if it's important, they'll leave a voicemail.' I listened to the message, called her back and said, 'I've just had a call from Play for Purpose and I've won something. Mum, I don't even know what I've won.

"She said, 'Well, you'd better call them back."

The winner said she was going to have a cup of tea to "calm down" before cracking open a bottle of champagne she had been saving for a special occasion.

Mater Foundation corporate and community engagement director Rowan Foster shared knowing the winner chose to support Mater Little Miracles makes it even more meaningful.

"Every ticket purchased helps us continue providing life-saving care to seriously ill and premature babies and supporting their families when they need it most," he said.
