I’m a menswear expert – these are the 6 best suits I’m backing this wedding season

Mytheresa’s summer suits collection is unrivalled - (Mytheresa/The Standard)

Wedding season is no joke. You need info on dress code, timings, meteorological reports, what the ushers are wearing, what the groom is wearing – it requires a hell of a lot of thought. With that in mind, let me (the titular menswear expert) take a load off. Here are the six finest options from Mytheresa menswear to take the stress out of your summer tailoring.

Firstly, why Mytheresa? With my near-decade of menswear credentials and styling experience, I’ve discovered that you’d be hard pressed to find a better online retailer when it comes to breadth of brands and getting a good deal. That’s another complication of wedding season – expenses. With nearly everything onsite slashed by a hearty percentage off, let Mytheresa handle that one.

Now, why listen to me? Dear reader, I’ve been in the menswear space for the best part of ten years. In that time, I’ve tried, tested, worn, touched, styled and written about just about every suit on the market. In short, you can trust me when it comes to what goes with what, where and when.

When it comes to nailing down what the perfect piece of summer tailoring looks like for you, there are a few things to consider. First and foremost, there’s construction. Summer is, unsurprisingly, a challenging time to be in full regalia… especially during the never-ending heatwaves we seem to be experiencing this time around. You’re going to want to opt for something with a linen or cotton component, and potentially a deconstructed shoulder for extra wiggle (and, later, dancing) room.

Putting all the details and sartorial lingo to one side for the moment, though, let’s focus back in. The good news is, I’ve done the leg/clickwork on this one so you don’t have to. Scroll on for my pick of Mytheresa’s best summer tailoring for surviving scorching summer weddings and beyond.

Brunello Cucinelli double-breasted suit

 (Mytheresa)
(Mytheresa)

If you thought corduroy was restricted to the dark academic look and autumn/winter seasons, think again. Bringing cord kicking and screaming into the summer season, this Brunello Cucinelli suit crafts the ribbed texture from a cotton construction, allowing for added breathability with texture and heart. Plus, that bright white colour will reflect the sun beautifully.

Dolce & Gabbana double-breasted suit

 (Mytheresa)
(Mytheresa)

Baby blue and lightweight linen? That’s a winning summer tailoring combo if ever I saw one. Brimming with the sun-soaked appeal of D&G’s signature Italiana, this Sicilian beauty makes subtly striking and retro-inspired choices with peak lapels, structured shoulder pads, multiple pockets, and buttoned cuffs.

Valentino jacquard blazer

 (Mytheresa)
(Mytheresa)

If you’re looking for something decidedly fashion-forward, look no further than Valentino’s jacquard blazer. Taking notes from the old-school smoking jackets of yore, this double-breasted blazer is finished with a draped scarf detail that caught my eye immediately. To take this rich piece into a summer setting, though, I’d suggest grounding it with some pleated suit trousers in a much paler hue. Let the jacket speak for itself.

Canali linen suit

 (Mytheresa)
(Mytheresa)

As always, a little Canali goes a long way. If you, like me, are a little on the Type B, scruffier side of life, something louche and linen like this two-piece will suit you down to the ground. Simple, and well-executed... and easily maintained.

Our Legacy double-breasted blazer

 (Mytheresa)
(Mytheresa)

Slouchy yet refined, this Our Legacy suit exemplifies exactly what the brand does so well: effortless cool. Tailored from a textured linen, silk and cotton blend, this lightweight two-piece suit takes notes from 1980s-inspired shapes with its peak labels and double-breasted construction.

Dunhill double-breasted suit

 (Mytheresa)
(Mytheresa)

For something more classic, refined and enduring, you can’t go wrong with Dunhill. Clean-cut and impeccably tailored, this rust-brown number is characterised by its sharp lines and breathable linen construction.
