Illuminight 2020: Kilmarnock light festival cancelled due to coronavirus

Kilmarnock's Illuminight festival has been cancelled.

East Ayrshire Leisure announced this morning that the annual light show won't go ahead this year because of coronavirus.

A statement reads: “We are very sad to report that due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and the uncertainties around delivering an event which would ensure the safety of our audiences and the surrounding community, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel Illuminight for 2020.

“Illuminight at Dean Castle Country Park has quickly established itself as one of Scotland’s leading illumination events, welcoming over 120,000 visitors in only three years. We will miss not being able to welcome the thousands of families, children, local community groups and charities to the event.”

Councillor Elena Whitham, chair of East Ayrshire Leisure, added: “Whilst this is a huge disappointment real pity, we hope that the community understands and supports the decision taken by East Ayrshire Leisure and Unique Events.

“However, Despite this disappointment, East Ayrshire Leisure will continue to work with local, regional and national partners to make sure that East Ayrshire remains an important region for leisure, sport, outdoor and cultural events.”

“We hope we can return in 2021 with another spectacular show, but in the meantime, please look after each other and stay safe.”
