CHICAGO — The Illinois-Missouri Braggin' Rights game this season will be played at one of the schools' campus arenas rather than a neutral site in St. Louis because of concerns about the spread of COVID-19, the programs announced Wednesday.
The home team for the Dec. 12 game will be decided by a coin flip that will air at 6 p.m. Thursday on Facebook, YouTube and both schools' athletic websites.
The programs agreed fans will not attend the rivalry game to help preserve a level of neutrality. Broadcast information and tipoff time will be announced at a later date.
The series is expected to resume at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis in 2021. The Illini lead the series 32-18, but Missouri has won the last two meetings.
This will mark the first time since 1979, when the game took place in Champaign, that the game hasn't been played in St. Louis. The arena typically is split evenly between Tigers and Illini fans.
The teams have met in Champaign and Columbia, Mo., five times apiece with one meeting in Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 16, 1946.
